Tailoring treatment: implementing genetics in small animal practice

Angela Hughes, DVM PhD Scientific Communications Veterinarian & Veterinary Geneticist for Royal Canin US

Genetic screenings for health, breeds and traits are becoming commonly used tools for both dogs and cats. They have the potential to improve the individualized care that veterinary professionals can provide. To fully leverage genetic testing in practice, it is important to understand genetic terminology and concepts, as well as how to interpret results, utilize that knowledge in your clinical care plans, and to properly communicate this information to clients. Through case presentations, this masterclass will cover all these aspects to help veterinary professionals become more comfortable with incorporating genetic tools and conversations in practice.
